Aircraft location detection by Airborne Collision and Avoidance System data

Capability of aircraft tracking by communication data in Airborne Collision and Avoidance System (ACAS) is discussed in the paper. ACAS surveillance functionalities provide precise range measurements for each user of airspace. Proposed approach considers fusion of surveillance data together with Automatic Depended Surveillance Broadcast communication messages to construct a navigation equation and find aircraft location as a solution. Questions of positioning accuracy by ACAS data are considered in more detail. Matrix equation for mean squared deviation estimation for positioning in horizontal plane that takes into account uncertainties ellipsis of airspace user’s location is proposed.
