Compatibility analysis of multi signal processing in APNT with current navigation infrastructure

According to Alternative Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (APNT) concept in aviation, existing navigation aids will not meet the requirements for future performance characteristics. One of the most effective means of accuracy improvement can be achieved by the simultaneous use of multiple navigational aids for positioning in airspace. An introducing of a multi-signal approach requires complete compatibility with the existing principles of navigation including pairs of navigational aids. Therefore, a comparative analysis of the perspective Taylor approach and the classical one for position error estimation by current regulative documents, for the case of positioning using pairs of DMEs is done in the article. The technical aspect of the Taylor approach implementation considers navigation system error estimation using classical or weighted dilution of precision and using the correction of barometric altimeter errors. Since the navigation system error is significantly dependent on the geometry of navigational aids location, the analysis is performed within a particular airspace area, taking into account the technical characteristics of the ground equipment. In addition, differences in positioning error using different boundary values of measuring equipment errors for ICAO Doc-9613 and RTCA DO-189 is investigated.
