Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast Trajectory Data Processing

Air traffic surveillance is an important element of aviation safety. Today data transmitted via Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) play an important role in air traffic management. An airplane transponder of mode 1090ES is the primary ADS-B equipment used globally. However, a data channel of 1090MHz can be overloaded in congested airspace due to multiple system access to unique frequency (ADS-B, Secondary Surveillance Radar, Traffic Collision and Avoidance System). Many digital messages of ADS-B can be lost during transmission. Obtained trajectory data of airplane is not synchronous and includes many gaps. In the paper, we consider methods of ADS-B data processing. Heading control approach, usage of extrapolated data during trajectory filtering, and comparison of surveillance data with existing network of flight routes are used to get coordinates of waypoints between linear parts of flight path. All methods are studied for sequential input from software-defined radio. In the numerical study, surveillance data of real flight is used.
